Tanith Lee è stata una scrittrice britannica di letteratura fantastica; attiva dalla metà degli anni Settanta fino alla sua scomparsa a metà degli anni Dieci, ha composto più di 90 romanzi e circa 300 racconti spaziando dall'avventura fantasy alla fantascienza sociologica fino all'orrore psicologico (anche con venature erotiche), passando per i romanzi di formazione destinati al pubblico adolescente e per un nucleo di testi realistici d'argomento LGBT. La sua opera più nota, insignita del British Fantasy Award, è il romanzo Il signore della notte (Death's Master), primo episodio del Ciclo della Terra piatta.
