This is the second time I read this book. I didn't remember anything from the first time, so it was a great rediscovering for me.
The book develops a society where the machines are forbidden and where Mentat are human calculator. The politics and the fight between the different factions make the book really interesting.

I never really engaged with this book. Even when I find the premise really interesting and I can find similarities with today development of politics. The author insists on telling side stories when you are in a very intense moment. I kept wondering "why is he telling me this now?". The end is abrupt and everything is solved in the best possible way almost magically.

This is book very hard to read. It confronts you with all the tricks that the brain uses to reduce cognitive dissonance in order to make you look good to yourself even when the decision you make is not the more moral. Confirmation biass and selective memories are other tricks that the brain uses to allow us to live with ourselves. In the end, you have some advice on how to avoid this kind of behavior.

It was difficult for me to get in the story. But once I get in, I have enjoyed it a lot.
It talks about childhood and about getting old. About insecurity and impostor syndrome. The importance of the past in our present selves. About feminism and how to conciliate this with the rest of our life. The author doesn't get to a conclusion, she just show that there are other people struggling with the same problems as you.

All the travel's books that I have read lately are written by middle age men very pleased to meet themselves. This is not an exception. The guy arrives to Australia, rent a car and drives for miles and miles. He arrives to some place in the middle of nowhere and complains because he can't find a pub where he can order a steak and some beer. Sometimes he finds the pub. In the meantime, he writes about data and some stories about the place. That's why the book gets two stars. The story about cricket really made me laugh.

The Lord of the Dreams has been kept captive for seventy years. When he gets free, he has to recover his powers objects. He is looking for revenge, too. Very dark and hopeless story.
