Bien, pero no es para tanto

3,5 estrellas. Si te gusta la mitología, encontrarás interesante está forma de volver a contar acontecimientos desde el punto de vista interno de Circe, un personaje femenino. Engancha, sobre todo la primera parte, pero luego pierde fuerza y se vuelve un poco aburrido para acabar con un buen final. PEEEERO: Ojo con las expectativas. No busques un replanteamiento feminista de los mitos griegos. Aunque probablemente sea la aproximación que más lo hace hasta la fecha, pero porque partimos de algo de una época con un sesgo completamente machista, y ya sólo que la prota sea una mujer cambia todo. Pero de ahí a situarlo como revisión feminista (he visto que hay gente que lo trata así)... creo que el problema puede ser el verse atada a lo ya contado (aunque no tengo yo mucha idea mitológica), porque la verdad creo que podría haber sido mucho más valiente despegándose del canon.

Stunning!

I didn't know quite what to expect when I started this book, but the narrator, Perdita Weeks, drew me into the unfolding story of a nymph who cannot find her place with her divine family. She breaks a rule, and the gods banish her to an island alone. There she must become everything for herself. The story is touching, at times violent, and ultimately heartwarming. Along the way we meet Hermes, Odysseus, Telemachus, and Penelope, as well as others. 

Weeks is a masterful narrator, bringing all the vulnerability and power to create complexity and depth in Circe. This is critical as we see the story through Circe's point of view. And what a point of view! She grew up the daughter of Helios, the sun God, whom she reverenced though he barely noticed her. It is only when she is banished that she learns who she is and what she …

Review of 'Circe' on 'Goodreads'

Todo hay que decirlo, me esperaba otra cosa de este libro, dentro de mi ranking le pondría un 8. Si te gusta la mitología griega y ver un planteamiento diferente de los mitos antiguos ven aqui pa' ca que este libro te va a gustar.
Desde el comienzo te presentan este libro como uno de relatos mitológicos sobre Circe, lo cual es estupendo. Sin embargo, al comienzo se hace muy pesado, pero es que es necesario en la trama. Circe comienza los primeros milenios de su vida siendo una joven inocente, manipulable y que tiene un velo puesto sobre los ojos que la incapacita para ver y actuar como se espera de la mítica Circe y no es hasta que está exiliada que no empieza a madurar, de ahi el tono sencillo y pesado de la novela al comienzo.
Cuando esta se pone interesante es durante el exilio; es curioso …
